With dry hair and dry skin I have tried a lot of different hair and skin products in my life. I have also tried a lot of household products to save me some money. I have some that I have been using years with excellent results. Using these products can save you hundreds on beauty products a year. Even if you have tried them, try them again!
Baking soda is a great exfoliate for dry skin! Baking soda is the best household product I have used for dry skin. It works as an exfoliate to remove dead and dry skin. Look closely at your skin before you do it. Do you see tiny white pieces of skin? Do you see rough patches? Instead of just lathering on the cream, remove the source and then your creams will work better.
Directions: Pour a tablespoon worth of baking soda into your face wash. Mix it together a little so the baking soda is mixed in and scrub all over. Don’t forget your neck! If you take the baking soda mixture in the shower with you it comes off of your face even easier! You can even do this to your entire body in the shower.
Some will say that sugar or salt will do the same thing. However I don’t recommend salt or sugar. I have tried both! Salt will dry out your skin, and sugar will dry your skin if you don’t get it all completely washed off.
Petroleum jelly replaces an expensive pedicure! Do you have cracked, dry feet? Are your toenails and cuticles dry, flaky and white? Petroleum jelly works wonders on your feet. This is the solution I swear by.
Directions: Wash your feet or take a shower so it is clean and smooth (a baking soda exfoliation doesn’t hurt either!) Grab some old socks that you don’t use any more. Slather your foot with petroleum jelly. I’m talking really get that thing greased up! Yes it feels weird, but bare with me. Put the sock over the foot and sleep with it on all night. Do the same with the other foot. The next day it will feel amazing.
But do it again the next night to really intensify the effect. You will have some gorgeous feet for several weeks. Once it feels dry again – sleep with the salve again!
Is Mayo good for the hair? Now folks I am trying this for you right now. I have a half-cup of expired mayo I found from the fridge. My hair was feeling dry and I had once heard that real mayo was good for it (or is it a wives tale from the 70s before we really had good conditioner?)
Now a word of caution: my friend who is a hairdresser said to be careful about putting oils on color-treated hair. Sometimes foreign oils can break down the color. So you may want to skip this part if you color your hair.
Am I going to have pretty hair after I wash it out? Or am I going to look greasy and smell like a pastrami sandwich? I am washing it out now. Diagnosis after 30 minutes: Well it feels a lot softer. Although the strong shampoo didn’t entirely get out the mayo smell, it looks pretty good. It looks shiny.
I’m not talking cutting out the spa completely – I’m just talking replacing it for a month or two and save the money that you would have spent for something special! Get the most out of your savings account while you save your money. Compare at savings accounts – compare savings rates here.
